ABOUT 15% of the world’s population lives with some form of disability and 2-4% among them experience severe difficulties in day-to-day functioning. According to the United Nations, of the one billion population of persons with disabilities globally, 80% live in developing countries. Those who have a disability and come from impoverished households are even worse off and face greater difficulties in getting education, training and rehabilitation. The global COVID-19 crisis further deepened existing inequalities and exclusion, making persons with disabilities among the hardest hit.

As the world moves toward recovery, it is essential to ensure that persons with disabilities are not left behind. Governments and organizations must prioritize disability-inclusive policies, enhance accessibility, and strengthen support systems to address the inequalities laid bare by the pandemic. Only through collective action can we build a more equitable and resilient society for all.

Therefore, we from the Independent Living Association for the Disabled Malaysia are very committed to providing the best services for them. Our organization, in collaboration with the government and other organizations, will continue to strive to raise awareness among the community regarding people with disabilities in Malaysia.
